How To Setup WordPress For SEO

Getting all you ducks in a row when setting up a WordPress site is a daunting task. WordPress is already setup for great SEO and some SEM functionality, but when you want to do it right, it takes a lot of special attention that I often forget to do myself, and that is why I’m creating this blueprint of WordPress SEO tips.

Installing Free Insurance

It’s less expensive than insurance, and you only have to do it once, and it only takes about 2 minutes.

  1. Change your database prefix from _wp to something unique. When installing a WordPress blog, make sure to use a database name other than _wp. Why? Because, it helps to thwart world be database hackers. It takes 10 second to change the prefix when setting up the database. Doing this after the fact, well, you’d have to hire someone, most likely.
  2. Setup Unique WordPress keys when first creating your blog. Do use the option in the config file for setting up unique keys. Again, security is at the heart of this. It isn’t so much about stealing stuff on your blog, but about malicious people wanting to hurt you. And they do it because they can write a virus and let it go into the Internet.

  1. Keyword Rich URLs or URI’s. — Define URLs so they reflect the content of your post or page.  You can do this automatically by choosing the right linking structure. Under Stetting | Permalinks and in the Custom field, I input the following: /%category%/%postname%/
